Today I mostly .....
Hmm...
Took my parents out to dinner at Nando's, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed, drove them home, then finally got around to sticking some photos up on my Flickr page which is where I'll probably be throwing anything I consider worth sharing that's bus/coach related in future. I didn't really want yet another separate gallery...but there seem to be enough enthusiasts there that it seemed the most sensible out of places where I already had an account.
Mostly just stuff from Stagecoach Bluebird's launch of their new Volvo B9R Plaxton Elites for the Dundee-Aberdeen service earlier this week. Nice looking vehicles I reckon.

Today went to the 2nd part of the rally event today and made a phone call to the Coastguard for a Kite Surfer that was in trouble. The coastguard launched their Jetski, life boat and also scrambled a helicopter from RAF Valley. Luckily the boat and jetski found the Kite Surfer and cancelled the chopper.
Regards.

Ah...Did turn out to be the head gasket causing trouble then did it?TheRealNivaman wrote: Jobs left to do include replace the cyl head gasket, rear wheel cylinders and two tires then take it for a wof/mot.
Um...Very little to report lately, save for making the mistake of phoning my GP up to check the cost of the PCV medical...£130. After retrieving my eyeballs from the floor, I informed them I'd have to get back to them. Guess that will have to wait a couple of months, shame as I'm really wanting to get my Category D provisional!

This evening I finally got around to carrying out an experiment I'd been meaning to for a while.
More years ago than I care to admit, I went out with a mission to beef up the audio system in my Saab. The intention being to pick up a pretty small sub, matching amp and a half decent set of six by nines for the rear parcel shelf (which was knackered and needed rebuilding anyway). I'm not the sort of person who has the bass cranked up so high as to make the car next to me rattle, but I do admit that a sub can make a big difference when set up correctly.
...Ended up coming out of the shop with a *huge* black and green box with a sub twice the size and amp twice as powerful as I had originally planned on getting, but the deal was too good to pass up, plus one of the guys at the shop had just installed the very same stuff in his car and it didn't sound half bad. Getting the box into the car was a challenge though, even through the rear door.
It's been three years though since I last had a car I could use it with, and it's just been moving between sheds, lofts and generally getting in the way at my parents house. Long term it may end up in the back of the van as there are several places it will fit there...but worrying about audio in that is a long way down the road.
So I found myself thinking...would this thing work if I ran it from say, all the 12V lines of a PC Power supply tied together, and fed it an input from my stereo...Turns out yes, yes it will. Does exactly what I wanted of it, just reinforcing the very bottom end. Power supply struggles a bit if the volume's up triggering the amp's protection circuit, but at 300W this isn't exactly a beefy example, and I know there's a 750W one rattling around somewhere if I can find it which has a far more realistic current rating for the 12V lines. Even as it is, it can make the desk, windows and ceiling(!?!) rattle...and that's with the volume on the amp at five...my ears start bleeding at about three anyway, so I'm not worried!
I do not understand the meaning of the term overkill...

Don't worry about the PC to the left of the image...it would have probably been scrapped by now were it not for the fact that it makes a convenient bedside table...

I thought the "Hazard" switch which controls the power supply for the Sub was quite appropriate though...Need to find a better way to attach it to the desk though, the cable-ties are temporary. I needed something lit to help eliminate the possiblity of forgetting it was switched on and hacking off the neighbors!
Silly, pointless but fun. Been a while since I cobbled together something random like this...hell I miss being a student...
