Would that be brown, slightly oily gunk in the radiator by any chance? If so, finger of suspicion points at the head gasket. Have a look for bubbles in there when the engine's running.

Has the car been losing any water?

Steve: Lucky....Lovely drive by the look of it, and lovely car!

Off to go and continue working at removing the sweep marks in the paint on the 306 now...

Today I mostly, went to Screwfix, picked up a new bow saw, and hacksaw.
Then proceeded to help a friend from work hang a new gate.
Came home and dug out the Paddy Hopkirk roof rack to fix one the legs that had snapped. I had already contact PH and no spares available.

So cunning plan time. Cut off the leg and removed the rusty bits which left the leg about 50mm too short. So measured the internal diameter of the tube 17mm....But had no tube that thin, so I found some tube that was 20mm and cut out a section in the tube and squashed it down in the vice.
Slid the tube into the leg and then welded the inner tube to the outer tube.
Then cut some more tube to fit around the new bit and again welded that up.

Its now stronger than what it was before.
Regards.

...took the MZ 125 for M.O.T. - and it passed!!! £86 off Ebay, a few evenings tinkering, a few (cheap) parts, 12 months tax -£16, M.O.T. -£20, TPF&T insurance with 0yrs NCD -£55 How cheap is that for transport?
Plus as a huge bonus, if it's not raining, such a buzz just riding the damn thing!!

Picked up the Bronco from the mech this morning.

Damn, does it feel good to caress a steering wheel after seven months without driving..

Yesterday changed the gearbox oil in the Land Rover. Just engine oil to drop now. Then went to a BBQ. Started off outside, then sat in a gazebo and finally went indoors. Far too much wind to make it enjoyable and a cold one at that.
